Watch: Expensive Doesn’t Mean Non-Toxic
Price is the shortcut almost everyone reaches for. A more expensive garment feels like the safer garment — and in a lot of buying decisions, that instinct quietly does the work that documentation is supposed to do.
It does not hold up. We see vendors selling high-cost apparel who follow every rule, and we see the same standard met at the low-cost end of the market. We also see the reverse: companies cutting corners who tell us plainly that yes, they know our materials are non-toxic, and yes, they would like to use them — but we cost more.
Non-toxic materials genuinely can carry a higher cost. That is a real constraint and it is worth saying out loud. What does not follow is the inverse. The $110 hoodie at the stadium is not certified by its price tag. Cost and compliance are two separate claims, and only one of them arrives with paperwork attached.
The short version: price tells you what something cost to make and market. It tells you nothing about what is in it. The only things that answer that question are a Safety Data Sheet, a named certification, and a supplier willing to send you both without being chased.
